The right first fish makes all the difference. Here are the most forgiving species.

Tank setup first

Don’t buy fish before your tank is ready:

  1. Set up tank and equipment
  2. Run nitrogen cycle (4-6 weeks)
  3. Test water parameters daily
  4. Add fish slowly once cycled
